Erica likes music

I'm Erica and I'm 22. I also like Diet Coke and Boston sports.

I don't know a lot about music. But I do spend an obscenely large amount of time trolling the web for songs to fall in love with. I also contribute to Tuneage.

You can email me at erica [dot] mayyasi [@] gmail [dot] com or listen to my muxtape. If I've posted your music and you'd rather I didn't, please email me and I will take it down right away. Plus hearing from you will probably be the highlight of my week.

Bat For Lashes — A Forest (The Cure cover)

Covering The Cure is a tall order but Bat For Lashes has stepped up the plate and succeeded nobly here. Her voice is ethereal— it feels like it just floats there and the music is this classical meets space age. This song is included on Perfect As Cats, a Cure tribute album, which also includes the likes of The Dandy Warhols and Lewis & Clarke, which comes out in October (available for pre-order now) and benefits Invisible Children. Listen to more at the album’s myspace.

A great cause to be sure…  but couldn’t they find cover art that didn’t look like a five y/o discovering MSPaint?

Lykke Li — Little Bit (Loving Hand remix)

Like the rest of the sane world, I am a huge sucker for anything Lykke Li.  And I am a huge sucker for anything with horns.  So naturally it follows that I am a really huge sucker for this remix.  Don’t just pin it on the vicodin for my newly wisdom toothless existence, this song is nine plus minutes of heaven.

I realize I have the voice and the look of a really young woman, even a girl sometimes. But I feel like I’m 100 years old.

Georgie James — More Lights

Oh no! The adorable DC-based duo of Laura Burhenn and John Davis is breaking up. I’m so sad! I first heard Georgie James when they opened for Camera Obscura two summers ago and absolutely fell in love. I even included them in this piece I had in the Dec 06 issue of N.E.E.T. magazine:

They’re going their seperate ways to pursue solo projects, which I mean I guess it’s good music will still be made but noooooo! They made such darling music together. Alas.

Arcade Fire — Maps (Yeah Yeah Yeahs cover)

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve always been partial to the original but the duetness of this version makes it even more beautifully wistful.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - “Maps”

A trip down memory lane: They don’t love you like I love you.

Hello, 2003. Great song.

Agreed.  So much nostalgia.

My little brother was a counselor at the summer program at King’s Academy in Jordan this summer and they gave him a mix of popular music in the country.  Anyways this is his favorite song off it (though he doesn’t know who sings it or the title or anything— sorry!) and I thought I’d share.  Everything I’ve posted here is in English!  Shaking things up, shaking things up.

The Wombats — Let’s Dance To Joy Division

As my mom drove my brother and I to have all four of our wisdom teeth yanked this morning, I felt compelled to put on this song.

It was the iTunes free single a while back and I quite like it. Normally songs with kids singing makes me want to blow up It’s A Small World, but for some reason it works here.

Also I think the line “Everything is going wrong but we’re so happy” sums up my brother and I’s current drugged up state right now. Though I’d certainly be happier if I could drink water without drooling half of it all over myself. Dare to dream.

Also if anything I write in the next day or so is incoherent I claim no responsibility. I changed my tumblr password to “notwithdrugs” (don’t worry I’ve changed it back again), thinking I’d forget I’d changed it or at least really think about my current state before I posted anything to the public internet but Firefox saved it and clearly I remembered and am posting anyways so fat lot of good that did.
